"Nobody Built Like You, You Design Yourself"

In writing this blog, I find myself trying to put it into a framework that I feel people would be excited about and drawn to. By no means will I write about celebrity scandals or whatever current celebrity obsession in order stay current but I do want to gain an interested audience. I choose to write about my people and my community and my dilemma came when I began to question "Will people listen and more so will they care?" I ask this because it seems to me that Jimi, Huey, and Malcolm have been replaced with Jay, Diddy, and LeBron. Not to insinuate that the latter figures aren't great in their own right but we now admire figures for their lifestyles more than their moral code.
...Then came another pearl of wisdom from a friend who in so many words told me I should say "fuck people" and follow my own design. He went on to share his belief that the progression of the black race is stagnated due to our fear of individuality, we feel the need to be apart of a group even if that means allowing our true passions to subside. Who wants to carry a torch if they feel their light won't be noticed?
However, if we can break the chains of comfort, complacency, and conformity as well as support each other-we may be able to have our cake and eat it too. We can have our Dwayne and our Martin because at the end of the day we are all endowed with unique talents; couple these gifts with enCOURAGEment and imagine the results. So without further adieu...J'ai Fame.

  1. "Will people listen and more so will they care?"

This is the same question I ask myself, with every piece of poetry or a note for that matter whenever I'm about to submit it to my blog of facebook....

This post to me was inspiring and is honest in so many ways. "He went on to share his belief that the progression of the black race is stagnated due to our fear of individuality, we feel the need to be apart of a group even if that means allowing our true passions to subside. Who wants to carry a torch if they feel their light won't be noticed?"

It's been proven that we live in an hindering generation...one that's so envious to let another person succeed as well as letting themselves succeed. So many people in our race are accustomed settling for less then what they can achieve, it's sad and yes progression is stagnant.

However, it is truly a breath of fresh air to see someone else who shares similar aspects on life. It is true that you shouldn't "care" so much about another person's perception of you, and you shouldn't hinder yourself just to fit into society or fit in anywhere for that matter. I'm grateful that you decided to start this blog, and Im listening. Other's will to, if they take the time out to smell the roses persay.

  2. Your comment is greatly appreciated! I believe we should all care about people in the humane sense of love for one's neighbor but we cannot let love or admiration delve into jealousy. Jealousy uproots animosity, insecurity, and self-hate. It is vital that as we come into our own consciousness we tune out outside hindrances (i.e. say "F people") and become convicted in our individual beliefs and passions.
Although I hope you are correct and people if only a small faction do take notice, not of me, but of the type of message I am trying to convey. However, if that doesn't come to pass I will still speak because an action only done for gratitude isn't real. We should all strive to be true.

  3. Kari & Johnae, progression is obviously not stagnant in you all, nor is, in my opinion, the black race at a standstill.

Is black popular culture much different from the other races in this country? Save Chomsky, Leavitt and some others I suppose, what white intellectual is lauded by the white race's hoi polloi? I think that Black America is indeed behind in educational attainment, but the fact that lifestyles are more appreciated is a given. The more pressing problem to me, however, is the veil of pessimism.

Unless of course, your aim is to increase, say, black Ph. D's, M.D.'s, etc.
